Hello, October!
Autumn is well under way, October is finally here. And with it? Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins (and more). Are you ready for everything October brings?
To take advantage of all October has to offer (and not miss a single spooky thing), we’ve rounded up this month’s essentials in Love Beauty Thrive’s October 2019 bucket list, for your best ever fall.
Make the most of this month. Happy October!
PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING
Let’s face it, we’ve already been enjoying pumpkin spice lattes for a month. Take full advantage of everything pumpkin spice while it’s still here (and in full force). Everything’s better with a PSL in hand.
VISIT THE PATCH
It’s not October without pumpkins (and gourds of every size, shape, and colour). A trip to the local farm or pumpkin patch is the perfect family and couple’s activity this month (with sky-high photo op potential). Get that perfect shot for Instagram!
BAKE A PIE
What to do with all those pumpkins? Bake a pie. Pick up a pre-made pie crust, find a simple recipe online for filling, and pop it in the oven. Your house will smell amazing (don’t forget the whip cream). Don’t feel like carving? Grab a can of pumpkin puree instead.
GET CARVIN’ (OR CRAFTY)
Carve those pumpkins. Or paint them. Or drill them. Or decorate them. Or stitch them (yes, you can cross-stitch a pumpkin). Or make a pumpkin derby race car. The options are endless. It’s time to get your hands dirty and get crafty!
ROAST THOSE SEEDS
And while you’re at it, rinse and clean those pumpkin seeds for the perfect, healthy (and delicious) snack. Roast clean pumpkin seeds on parchment paper in the oven, with a touch of extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper. Nothing better.
GIVE THANKS
Get grateful. Thanksgiving is this month in Canada, and just around the corner for our American friends. Start planning your ultimate thanksgiving meal and special family gatherings. Other ideas? Start a gratitude journal.
FRONT PORCH DECOR
There is nothing prettier than a fall front porch. Beautiful mums, dried florals, pumpkins, straw wreaths, and other seasonal (or Halloween) decor will do the trick. Cozy harvest displays don’t have to be pricey (make the dollar store your first stop).
BONFIRE
Is there anything better? Plan a bonfire night with family and friends. Evenings are darker and cooler, but still warm enough to bundle up outside by the fire with a warm drink, amazing company, and some great music.
GILMORE GIRLS
Maybe it’s the fall leaves on the opening scene (maybe it’s all. the. coffee), but something about October just shouts Gilmore Girls. Spend time with Lorelei, Rory, Luke, and Sookie in Stars Hollow, revisiting one of the best, most binge-worthy shows of all time. Cozy up!

MAKE IT A MOVIE NIGHT
A horror movie night. Catch up on one (or all) of those scary films on your to-watch list during this spookiest month of the year. There will be no shortage of terrifying flicks in theatres or to stream (IT: Chapter 2 is in theatres now). Where’s the popcorn?!
DATE NIGHT WITH THE KING
Stephen King, the king of horror. The longer, cooler evenings of fall is the perfect time to read, read, read. Cozy up with a coffee, tea, or glass of wine by the fire and lose yourself in a great, scary novel this month.
Need some ideas? Here are a few Stephen King classics.

HALLOWEEN FUN
You are never too old for Halloween. It’s the perfect holiday for couples, families, and friends. Get a costume, plan a party, decorate your house, carve a jack-o-lantern, or make your house extra spooky for the little trick-or-treaters who’ll come to your door.
HOLIDAY FINANCIAL PREP
It’s that (expensive) time of year, the holiday season is getting closer. Now is the time to be thinking ahead, budgeting, and planning your finances for all those upcoming holiday gifts, decorations, and extra food that will soon be on your shopping list (don’t forget activities and charitable donations too).
SUPPORT LOCAL GIRL GUIDES
October means fall cookie sales for the Girl Guides of Canada. Chocolate mint cookies are now available (you’ll have to wait until spring for chocolate or vanilla). Cookie sales support the empowerment, adventure, friendship, and fun of girls across the country. Buy some cookies!
GOODBYE SEPTEMBER
Take advantage of the still-sunny days earlier in the month to cross any remaining items off your September bucket list. Need ideas? Check out Love Beauty Thrive’s September 2019 Bucket List To Kick Off Fall.
