Families, it’s summer time!
The long-awaited days of summer are finally here. The sun is shining, school bags are packed away, and the kids are ready for swimming, camping, family vacations and lots of summertime fun.
But summer mornings? In our house, they’re still go, go, go!
Even in the summer months, our mornings can be crazy – we don’t want to waste a minute of glorious sunshine, not after our long Canadian winters! We need a quick, nutritious breakfast to give us the energy we need for a full day of fun in the sun. Our breakfast go-to? Berry Protein Smoothies!
Berry Protein Smoothies, healthy and delicious, are quick and easy to make – just grab your blender, a few key ingredients and a couple of tall glasses. I find smoothies are best when consumed right away, so I try to prepare them right before we’re ready for breakfast, instead of keeping them in the fridge.
Simple to prepare, just combine healthy ingredients while the kids are getting dressed, blend and enjoy!
This nutrient-packed smoothie is purposefully designed to balance vitamins, carbs, fibre, protein and healthy fats with limited added sugar – a great choice to support physical and mental health (while deliciously filling you up until lunch). With fruit and flavour combinations that you can adjust to your liking, it’s easier and tastier than ever to make sure your family starts every day right this summer – with fruit, veggies and protein. And don’t forget omega-3s (thanks to flax seeds)!
Berry Protein Smoothie Ingredients
Here’s a list of the key ingredients I like to include in my Berry Protein Smoothies:
Flavour: Mixed Berry & Banana Coconut (YUM!)
Benefit: Vitamins, Mixed Fruit, Greens, Healthy Carbs & Fats, Fibre, Protein, Omega-3s, Limited Added Sugar
Fruit: Frozen Mixed Berry Blend (Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries), Banana
Greens: Baby Spinach
Protein: Pure Protein Vanilla Protein Powder, Liberte High Protein Greek Yogurt (Plain, 0%)
Healthy Fats: Organic Coconut Chunks, Ground Flax Seed
Other Ingredients: Silk Coconut Beverage (Unsweetened, Original), Ice Cubes
A beautiful, healthy breakfast? Yes, please! Make this smoothie your own by adding your favourite fruit combinations and blends. Keep it interesting by changing it up day to day throughout the week.
Berry Protein Smoothie Directions
I combine half a cup of frozen mixed berries with half a banana in a blender, along with a handful of washed baby spinach for a serving of greens. Then, I added a scoop of Pure Protein Vanilla Protein Powder, two tablespoons of ground golden flax seeds, five organic coconut chunks (I buy a pre-cut, resealable bag from Costco), plus one quarter of a cup of plain greek yogurt for creaminess and extra protein. Blend with one cup of Silk Coconut Beverage (and an ice cube) – high in calcium and “temptingly tropical”!
Berry Protein Smoothie Benefits
Of course, in addition to being a healthy, quick and delicious breakfast for summer mornings, I love all the other added benefits of starting the day with this Mixed Berry Protein Smoothie too – and there are many!
First, support local farmers (and get a boost of added nutrition) by adding freshly picked field berries when in season – take the kids as a fun, summer activity to pick your own! Second, I love that it’s the perfect way to sneak a serving of healthy greens to picky eaters. I promise you can’t taste the spinach! Third, it’s a thick, creamy, tropical treat high in protein – thanks to greek yogurt, vanilla protein powder and coconut – that’s low in added sugar. And lastly, my favourite benefit is the omega-3s from the ground golden flax seeds.
Don’t forget to get creative! Blended with different fruit varieties and combinations, Mixed Berry Protein Smoothies are a simple, healthy recipe to also enjoy with lunch, dinner or even as a dessert. Delicious!
Pure Protein Vanilla Protein Powder is available on Amazon. Include it in your smoothie recipe, or get your protein solely from the addition of greek yogurt – it’s up to you!
