“Elevating women’s stories is at the core of Reese’s Book Club.”
In these times of change, Reese Witherspoon continues to champion and change the narrative for women. Few have done more to celebrate women’s stories, changing the game for women in literature, film, and television.
As a fellow book lover with an interest in women’s and children’s issues, I always look forward to Reese’s Book Club selection every month (and am never disappointed).
In honour of Black Lives Matter, she’s picked for the first time two books as her monthly selection, to be read simultaneously in June and July. And as part of the Blackout Bestsellers List movement, she’s also recommended two other titles, to support and heighten books written by Black authors.
Ready to pack your beach bag with some important reads (maybe even a great mystery too)? Together, we can read, listen, learn, and grow to change the world, one book and important conversation, at a time.
We’ve listed for you the four newest picks from Reese’s Book Club to read this summer and her thoughts on each (as well as her two Blackout Bestsellers List recommendations), to help us all read, learn, and create together a more united world.

Everything Inside (2020)
By Edwidge Danticat
“Anybody else love short stories?! It’s a collection of eight beautiful stories shaped by different women’s experiences with love and loss. I was so moved by the resilience and strength that these women exemplified. It’s such an empowering read that taught me a lot about Haitian culture. I’m really looking forward to discussing it and learning which story is your favourite!” – Reese Witherspoon (August, 2020).
I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made For Whiteness (2018)
By Austin Channing Brown
“A personal narrative from a Black, Christian woman who takes us through what she experiences every day as a Black person in America. It is teaching me so much about how we perpetuate racism in our society . . . one of those books you need to keep around, keep going back to, and keep talking about . . . a beautiful and timely memoir that really opened my eyes and made me think.” – Reese Witherspoon (June/July, 2020).
The Guest List (2020)
By Lucy Foley
“A very stormy seaside destination wedding is the backdrop for this thrilling pick. Get ready for so many twists and turns as you try to figure out the who, what and when of this mystery. It reminds me of some of my favorite mysteries from Agatha Christie. You’ll be guessing all the way ‘til the end … and you’re in for a shocker! If you love a great page-turner-that-keeps-you-guessing-til-the-end book . . . this is a must read!” – Reese Witherspoon (June/July, 2020).
The Henna Artist (2020)
By Alka Joshi
“This vivid story is so rich and complex . . . reading about Lakshmi’s journey from escaping an abusive marriage to becoming one of the most sought-after henna artists in Jaipur captivated me from the first chapter to the final page . . . let’s read together!” – Reese Witherspoon (May, 2020).
